Department of Basic Science

Chairman Message

An important part of our educational mission is to create a learning community in which the department staff is dedicated to provide students with the introduction to basic morphologic concepts in domestic animals at macroscopic, microscopic and molecular levels, emphasizing structural and functional relationships.

Along with the teaching activities right from the day first, procurement and preparation of assorted bones of all the domestic animals was simultaneously taken up and continued in Anatomy workshop. The result is that this Anatomy section now has sufficient stocks of all sorts of bones and their different sections. The department is equipped with articulated skeletons of horse, ox, goat, dog, camel and peacock along with assorted bones of horse, ox, goat, dog and chicken. In order to facilitate comparative studies of different parts of skeleton, the same views of the same bones of the same sides of different species of animals were fixed side by side on a 30 X 20 inch chips board. This model-cum-chart when displayed on the Anatomy Lab wall is not only of a great help to the teachers but also becomes a handy reference for the veterinary students. Five such models are exhibited in the Anatomy Lab at CVAS, Jhang. Visceral organs and other body parts of animals are preserved in jars / containers for the demonstration purpose. The Anatomy Lab is also equipped with appropriate embalming equipments along with a deep freezer.

Histology lab is dedicated for the development of histological slides of specimen of different animal species (Poultry, Small and Large Animals) and their demonstration to the students.

Physiology is equipped with instruments which make possible the hematological profile and urinalysis of laboratory animals along with the demonstration of different biochemical tests. Different types of charts are displayed on the wall of Physiology Lab.

Pharmacology & Toxicology section is engaged in teaching pharmacology of drugs in veterinary practice to the undergraduate veterinary students. The courses at this level have been designed to develop understanding on toxicological and pharmacological basis of metabolism, endocrinology, neurology, physiological chemistry and drug actions and uses.

The department has a good team of experienced teachers and lab staff, who are engaged with devotion and dedication for the basic veterinary education at CVAS, Jhang.
