Third Annual Function of Alumni Association UVAS
 

The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Alumni Association held its 3rd reunion, The Gala Get-together/General Body Meeting & Dinner on March 12, 2012 at the City campus.

A large number of UVAS graduates were present at the occasion. Former Governor Punjab Lt. Gen. (R) Khalid Maqbool was the chief guest. Present on the occasion were also federal secretary Akhlaq Ahmad Tarar, former Vice- chancellors Prof. Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Quraeshi and Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz, former member of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Central Executive Committee Dr Israr Shah among many others.

The mega evening kicked off with the formal presence of the chief guest and the recitation from the Holy Quran. In his welcome address, UVAS Alumni Association President and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha said that ‘the Alumni are the goodwill ambassador of the university and an important goal of the function is to engage alumni what they can do to support UVAS on all fronts. He also explained that the objective was to build a solid social network of graduates with a shared loyalty and affinity to their alma mater. For that purpose he explained UVAS was going to establish an office of alumni that will be providing a platform to the alumni to discuss issues and strengthening ties. He emphasized that livestock was the only the sector which could overcome the poverty and to serve as engine of economic prosperity in the country. Discussing the Ravi Campus Pattoki, College of Veterinary Science Jhang, Avian Research and Training Centre (ARTC), Para Veterinary School, Karor Lal-Eason, Distt. Layyah were the development of former heads. He paid rich tribute to celebrities who played pro-active role for the development of the university.

UVAS Dramatic Society students presented fabulous performance on different themes including SAVE WATER. The guests applauded the brilliant performance by the students.  UVAS Alumni Association's representatives from Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, KPK, Gilgit Baltistan and AJK addresses to the participants and shared their views about the university life and the Alumni association's role in re-connecting the old friends. Speaking on the occasion,  chief guest Lt. Gen. (R) Khalid Maqbool lauded the Alumni Association for arranging get-together with the old UVAS family. He said that it has always been a pleasure to come to this university. The livestock sector is at an important crossroad and the UVAS has got the highest responsibility of meeting the needs of the growing and developing sector. He congratulated Prof. Pasha to take over as Vice Chancellor and hoped that university will make progress under his leadership. He also paid special tribute to the former UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Manzoor Ahmad and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nawaz to play their important role in the development of this university. He also distributed the shields among various distinguish alumni for their contribution towards uplift of the university and this sector in general.

Later the guests were served with the delicious dinner followed by the General Body Meeting of the Alumni Association in the university auditorium. Honorable Alumni expressed their views at this occasion. Dr. Asrar Shah, an alumni of the university and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the former member of Central Executive Committee of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) shared his views and recalled the old memories. Syman Pharmaceuticals Managing Director Dr. Syed Sajjad Haider, Registrar Pakistan veterinary Medical Council (PVMC) Dr. Almdar Hussain Malik also spoke at this occasion. The elections were also conducted to elect the Executive Body of the Association for 2012. The association also decided to hold this Get-together every year in order to make it more active platform for the alumni.
