4th Alumni Association Re-Union ReportThe 4th UVAS Alumni Association Reunion 2013 was held on Saturday night (09-03-13) in the main lawn of University of veterinary & Animal Sciences, City Campus. Director General Remount Veterinary and Farms Corps (RVFC) Maj-Gen Imtiaz Hussain Sherazi was chief guest on the occasion while over 600 alumni members attended the annual reunion. Speaking on the occasion, Maj Gen Sherazi said that he was amazed to see the rapid growth of the UVAS in a decade which had started with only one DVM degree program in 2002 and now it is offering about 57 programs including Pharm-D, BS degrees programs, Masters, M.Phil and Ph.D programs along with a huge infrastructure, well-equipped laboratories and allied facilities. “I am very delight to know that an enormous increase in winning of research grants, impact factor publications and submission of 16 Projects for Pak-Us Science & Technology Cooperation Program 2012 show keen interest in promoting utmost efforts for research advancement by the learned faculty and administration of University,” Maj Gen Sherazi said. “I have just heard that UVAS has recently been awarded with category ‘W’ by the HEC in Quality Assurance, now, when this university is striving hard to ensure quality education of students in veterinary & animal sciences, this is the reason, to all the aspiring young veterinarians and allied field students in Pakistan and elsewhere, the name of UVAS, Lahore means only one thing - the best quality, world-class veterinary education,” he said, adding, “Today is a wonderful evening to see such an amazing gathering and this tradition should be continued.” Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, who is also the president of the Alumni Association, spoke about the growth of the university academic and research programs, its infrastructure and achievements. He said that recently the Quality Assurance Agency of the HEC had ranked the Quality Enhancement Cell of the UVAS in the top most “W” category with 91 per cent score, which, he said spoke of the standard and quality of education at the university. He especially mentioned the establishment of the UVAS 24/7 Extension Service for the welfare of the farming community, the Business Incubation Centre and the promotion of linkages with the allied industry and stake-holders for the cause of education and the development of livestock sector. He said that the UVAS had also increased the number and the amount of scholarships for its students with the cooperation of the alumni and the allied industry. He announced that the Annul Re-Union of the Alumni Association will now be held regularly on the second Saturday of March every year. Earlier a play by the students, music performances by students and teachers and alumni comments featured the Reunion function. The meeting was culminated with a dinner for all the participants. |
