Regulations Relating to Award of Medals

1. Gold Medal

A gold medal may be awarded to a student who has in:

1st. Degree Examinations

  1. secured the highest number of marks in the aggregate of Examinations in all the courses of study prescribed for the degree;
  2. passed Examination in each course of study in first attempt;
  3. obtained 70% or more marks in each Semester in the aggregate of all the courses; and
  4. completed all requirements for the degree programme during the minimum prescribed period.

 

2. Silver Medal.

The silver medal may be awarded to a student who has:

  1. secured the second highest number of marks in the aggregate of Examinations in all the courses of study prescribed for the degree;
  2. passed Examination in each course of study in the first attempt;
  3. obtained 70% or more marks in each Semester in the aggregate of all courses;
  4. completed all requirements for the degree programme during the minimum prescribed period.

3. Bronze Medal.

A bronze medal may be awarded to a student who has:

a) Secured the 3rd highest number of marks in the aggregate of Examinations in all the courses of study prescribed for the degree.
b) Passed Examination in each course of study in first attempt;
c) obtained 70% or more marks in each Semester in the aggregate of all the courses;
d) completed all requirements for the degree programme during the minimum prescribed period.

4.  Master’s Degree Examinations

A silver medal may be awarded to a student of each department who has:

  1. secured the highest number of marks in aggregate of the Examinations in all the courses of study included in his degree programme
  2. passed Examination in each course of study in the first attempt
  3. secured 70% or more marks in each course
  4. completed all the requirements for the degree during the minimum prescribed period
  5. the thesis has also been finally accepted by the examiner in the first attempt.

General

In case more candidates than one become eligible for the award of medal, the medal shall be awarded to each candidate.

For the purposes of these Regulations, the candidates qualifying for the award of a degree in an academic session will be considered.

The award of the medal shall be subject to good conduct and behaviour of the student during his / her stay in the University to be certified by the concerned Dean / Director

The candidate must simultaneously fulfill all the conditions prescribed for the award of medal. If a student fails to fulfill any of the conditions laid down in this behalf, he / she will not be eligible for the medal and the medal will not be awarded.

Each Faculty will evolve procedure for determining the best student from its under-graduate degree classes every year. Such students may be given some cash prize or a certificate for showing the best performance.
