BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Muhammad Zubair Shabbir is a microbiologist at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan. He received a doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) degree with distinction (Bronze Medalist) in 2006 and, under the auspices of his own-managed international collaborative research projects with the PennState, USA, he completed doctoral thesis (Microbiology) in 2013. The thesis involved a culture-independent analysis of the respiratory microbiome of birds through different bioinformatic pipelines (e.g., MOTHUR, MEGAN, METAGENassist etc). Besides generating information on the baseline microbiome of birds, it concluded the potential of birds as a reservoir of well-known as well as novel pathogens of public health significance.
Soon after undergraduate, from 2006 onward, Dr. Shabbir is associated with the mother institute as a faculty and is involved in academics and research activities in collaboration with several national and international institutes worldwide. During the time, while attending various national and international reference laboratories, also he has completed various fellowships, internships, and training on infection epidemiology, disease diagnostics, bioinformatics, and genomic characterization of pathogens. Cumulating together, Dr. Shabbir has an excellent track record for research grants, peer-reviewed publications, international collaboration, doctorates supervision, and have won a research productivity award. With this summary, Dr. Shabbir is committed to further continue in the area of his background expertise that includes but not limited to surveillance and epidemiology of the infectious disease, and molecular characterization of pathogens of veterinary and public health importance, particularly Paramyxoviruses and Orthomyxoviruses originating from domestic or wild-animal and human.
