The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore in collaboration with Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) organized three days Poultry Science Conference at the occasion of International Poultry Expo (IPEX-2019) at Expo Center Lahore. Each day’s theme included; Poultry Health, Farm Management and Nutrition, Processing, Value Addition and Food Safety.

More than 70 abstracts related to these themes were submitted and after technical evaluation 21 presenters were selected for Oral Presentation. Six key-note speakers including five international presenters who came from UK, USA and Lebanon attended this conference, while other oral presenters were from various Universities of Pakistan participated. On each day three laptops were distributed among the participants on asking the best questions from the oral presenters.

The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore in collaboration with World Poultry Science Association (WPSA) and Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC) organised fourth 2-days WPSA International (Virtual) One Health Conference here at City Campus Lahore on Thursday.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (S.I) presided over the inaugural session of the conference while President Pakistan Branch of WPSA Mian J.M. Javaid Rathore, Chairperson of the Conference/Senior Vice President WPSA-Pakistan Dr Hanif Nazir Chaudhary, Pro Vice-Chancellor/President PVMC Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, Chief organizer President WPSA Punjab Dr Asim Mahmood were present. A large number of academicians from different universities, researchers, veterinarians, professionals/scientists from veterinary/animal sciences, medical sciences, public health/environmental sciences and stakeholders from poultry industries and national and international experts from different countries attended through video link.

Addressing the inaugural session, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that one health is a collaborative, multispectral and trans disciplinary approach which working at the local, regional, national and global level with the aim of achieving precise health outcomes that granting the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment. He said this conference will provide a platform to bring together academia, researchers, farmers, professionals and industrialists to share their relevant research work and learn basics and advance approaches linked to one health, researchable problem and current challenges which will help the process of making new discoveries and then transforming them into products and services for the marketplace he added. He also said UVAS is offering high quality technical academic programs and focusing on research activities, healthy food production and economic development.

The Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Health Security Partners (HSP) USA arranged 2nd awareness seminar on “Field Biosafety” for final year of  Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students at Ravi Campus Pattoki. The theme of the awareness seminar was to highlight the role of biosafety in mitigating zoonotic risks associated with the field conditions.  The UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani chaired seminar and delivered an informative lecture on overview of biosafety and biosecurity issues while addressing zoonotic infections including the roles and responsibilities of veterinarians in ensuring biosafety and biosecurity. 

After comprehensive overview participants were trained on various aspects of biosafety including selection of PPE while handling animals, management of animal body fluids containing pathogens, animal waste management and management of injuries due to animal bite/ animal hit and hand washing in field conditions.

At the end of seminar Prof Dr Masood Rabbani distributed certificates among all the participant, facilitators and resource persons and paid thanks to everyone for the successfulevent.

The objective of this seminar was to uplift the awareness level and to provide hands on practice opportunity for capacity building of final year DVM students to identify the role and impact of biosafety in the field conditions while dealing with different zoonotic diseases and biological specimens.

The Department of Microbiology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Institute of Public Health Lahore (IPH) arranged an awareness seminar and walk to create awareness among general public regarding “Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)” here in in City Campus on Tuesday.
Vice-Chancellor University of Education Lahore (UE) Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and UVAS Vice-Chancellor Emeritus Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad co-chaired the concluding session of the seminar while Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, Prof Dr Tahir Yaqub, Dean (IPH) Prof Dr Zarfishan Tahir and a large number of students, faculty members and officials from IPH were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Pasha said that it is direly needed to spread awareness among general public through social media regarding the real facts of Novel Coronavirus to curb misconception viral on social media to save livestock sector in Pakistan. Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that UVAS always arranged such seminars for the information of general public regarding emerging issues. He said any single mortality of human caused of this virus is alarming situation. He advised experts to record 3 to 5 minutes short video clip and upload on YouTube channel for the information of public regarding Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
Later, Prof Pasha led the walk while Prof Nasim Ahmad and a large number of faculty members, students and IPH officials were participated. The walk starting from Pasha Academic block and culminate at in front of UVAS main lawn after took round of campus.
Earlier, Prof Dr Tahir Yaqub delivered a lecture on the role of animals in emergence, spread and diagnosis of Novel Corona Virus 2019 (2019-nCoV) while Prof Dr Zarfisha Tahir spoke about prevention and control of Corona Virus and Prof Dr Muhammad Akram Munir highlighted the need of Coronavirus vaccine as a disease mitigation and control strategy. Head of Infectious Diseases IPH Dr Tahir Mahmood talked about Noval Crona Virus (2019-nCoV) epidemic and travel advisory about this global emergent issue.       
The objective of the seminar was to educate general public about emergence of Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) issues especially its transmission and prevention by adopting best hygiene practices. In which various aspects have been discussed related to introduction of Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), transmission, symptoms, serious complication which can lead to death and possible preventive measures etc.

Food borne illnesses are majorly caused by the pathogens like species of Salmonella, Campylobacter, Listeria, Escherichia, etc. Their detection by PCR can reduce the processing time in commercial settings. Keeping in view, the requirements of the professionals working on food safety and quality management in food industry, a short training module to enhance their competencies was prepared for two day workshop on “Advanced Detection of Food Borne Pathogens” to be conducted at Department of Microbiology UVAS, Lahore from December 26 to 27, 2019. Initially 10 nominations from various industries having such laboratories were entertained on first come first serve basis. The training workshop has provided maximum opportunity for hands on training.

The Department of Microbiology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Institute of Public Health Lahore (IPH) arranged a concluding ceremony of 3-Days Training of Trainers workshop on ‘Writing A Competitive Grant Proposal’ here in UVAS Veterinary Academy on Thursday. 
UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani presided over the concluding session of the workshop and distributed certificates among participants and resource persons while Chief Organizer of Training Prof Dr Tahir Yaqub, Dean (IPH) Prof Dr Zarfishan Tahir and number of participants from IPH were present.
Speaking on the occasion, UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani advised participants it is your responsibility to share your knowledge and skills with other professional which u learnt from this workshop. He said UVAS resources are always available for the professional assistance of researchers. He said UVAS Microbiology Department progressing day by day and its leadership always encouraging its faculty members for enhancing their professional competencies and their individual progress. 
During three day workshop experts were delivered their informative lectures to participants on the topics of what is research, national and international funding agencies, key component of proposal, problem identification, logical frame work analysis, developing consortium and collaborations, budget preparation, developing business plan, literature search & reference management and proposal writing exercise etc.

The Department of Microbiology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Institute of Public Health Lahore (IPH) arranged one day Awareness Seminar and Hands on Training on The Use of Personal Protective Equipment For Novel Coronavirus.

The workshop was conducted to train the faculty and professionals on Complete Blood Count and its interpretations.

A Five Day Online Biorisk management training program was conducted by Association of Biorisk Management (ABM) in collaboration with Health Security Partners (HSP) at the institute of Microbiology.  The participants are the students, faculty and staff.
