Biography

Dr. Mubashrah Munir is Associate Professor and faculty member of the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan since Jan 4, 2019 and holds M.Sc., M. Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Botany. She has over twelve years experience of teaching and research in Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi. She has been actively involved in the development of curricula for various degree programmes, M. Phil/Ph.D. Botany, BS (Hons.) Biological Sciences etc. She completed her Ph.D. in 2014 and conducted major part of her Ph.D. research at Department of Zoology, Michigan State University, USA under International Research support programme (IRSIP).  The title of her PhD dissertation is “Ecology of algal flora of Kallar Kahar Lake and its associated tributaries”. The areas of her expertise are Algal taxonomy, Ecology, Biotechnology, nutraceutical and Ethnobotany. She has 21 peer reviewed research publications, 01 international book chapter to her name.  Dr. Mubashrah has supervised 14 M. Phil students. Currently 02 Ph.D. students are working under her supervision. She has presented research papers in national scientific conferences. Dr. Mubashrah is life time member of various professional bodies such as Pakistan Botanical Society and member of statutory body in UVAS. Dr. Mubasharh has broad experience in Botany, Biotechnology and Ecology and has better understanding of algal species identification, algal biomass production and its conversion to biofuel and bioproducts. She also has experience of algal cultivation in wastewater for cleaning water.

  • Algal Taxonomy: Identification of fresh water algae
  • Algal Ecology: Investigation of ecological requirements of algal species and effect of environmental pollutants on algae and aquatic ecosystems.
  • Algal Biotechnology: Mass production of algae and conversion of biomass into bioproducts
  • Ethnobotany:  Use of plants in medicine, as food, feed and nutracuticals.
