Biography

Dr. Awais Ghaffar is working as a Lecturer in Veterinary Clinical Medicine at KBCMA College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, UVAS, Pakistan. He completed his PhD in Veterinary Medical Sciences at the University of Calgary, Canada. His research interests include antimicrobial resistance, One Health, metagenomics, microbial genomics, bioinformatics, and infectious diseases. His recent work has focused on genome-resolved metagenomic analyses, including the identification and characterization of potentially novel microbial taxa and their antimicrobial resistance, virulence, mobile genetic elements, and functional potential. During his PhD, he identified 22 potentially novel bacterial taxa through the characterization of metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs). He has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed publications in veterinary microbiology, infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and related areas. He is also actively involved in scientific publishing and serves as a guest editor for a special issue on antimicrobial resistance. As a lecturer, his major responsibilities include teaching veterinary medicine courses, managing clinical cases, conducting research, and providing extension services.
