Biography
Dr. Shafqat Fatima Rehmani is an Associate Professor /Senior Scientific Research Officer in the Quality Operations Laboratory, University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan. She holds B.Sc. (Hons) and MSc., M.S. in Veterinary Science and Ph.D. degrees in Veterinary Pathology. She Served as Director (1979-2005) and then as Executive Director at Sindh Poultry Vaccine Centre (SPVC) Karachi, (April,2005 to 2010). She established the SPVC through funding of the UNDP/FAO inaugurated in 1979, successfully run under her supervision on self finance basis till 2009 and became the Largest Poultry Vaccine Production Unit of the country. She did Consultancy at Tanzania & Mozambique: “To Audit the Quality Assurance of Newcastle Disease Vaccine Production facility in Tanzania & Mozambique” DURING 2012 by KYEMMA Foundation, Australia. She also assisted in the planning of new facilities BSL II and III, for the production of veterinary vaccines in Zambia. She worked for Establishing a small facility of BS level III for the Laying flock to produce Specified Pathogen Free (SPF) eggs. She has PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS of the following societies: American Society for Microbiology (ASM), International Society for Infectious Diseases, Pakistan Society for Microbiology (PSM), Member of the evaluation team for the publication in the Pakistan Journal of Scientific and Industrial Research., Member of Sindh Poultry Board, Pakistan, Member of the disease control committee of Pakistan Poultry Association. She presented research findings in 7 international and various national scientific conferences. Dr. Shafqat Rehmani has more than 23 peer reviewed research publications, 12 presented in International Journals and remaining 11 in National journal. So far, she has produced around 10 postgraduate students under her supervision. She served as external and internal Examiner of Postgraduate students at the department of Microbiology and Physiology at the University of Karachi (UOK). She also has Technical links with the South East Poultry Research Lab (SEPRL) Athens, Georgia, USA, University of Isfahan, Iran, Malaysia, University of Ames, Iowa and University of Ohio, USA. She actively part as a member of the Technical Committee, nominated by the Govt. of Punjab/ livestock and dairy development regarding the problems of poultry industry She got Merit scholarship from AIDAB, Australia for her Ph.D program UNDP/FAO Fellowship from UNDP/FAO for MS program from USA, and Merit scholarship in BSc (Hons) and Matriculation from the UOK and Karachi Board respectively.
She received Life Achievement awards by the Pakistan Poultry Association recently on 5 Nov. 2012. She has many awards like: Award on Best performance on Meritorious Services rendered for the Poultry Industry, (International Congress & Exhibition) on 09-10, November, 2007.Professional Performance Award in Research and Development by Pakistan Poultry Association at International Poultry Congress & Many Others.

- Recombinant Vaccine against NDV, AI (H9) and HPS for Broiler Industry.
- Production of Vaccine from the indigenous strains of Chickens causing epidemic in the poultry in last three decades i.e. Hydropericardium Syndrom (HPS), Newcastle Disease (ND) and Avian Influenza serotype (H9, H7, H5) and Infectious Bursal Disease( IBD).
- Isolation and Molecular characterization of Field isolates of ND Virus and vaccine strains and submit to the Gene Bank.

- Diagnosis and Molecular characterization of Field isolates of Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV), Avian Influenza Virus (AI), Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV) and Hydropericardium Syndrome (HPS) Inclusion Bodies Hepatitis Virus IBHV) of field isolate for the development of new approaches to vaccination from PARB.( Submitted )
- Prepared a PC-1 and Got the Approval of an Agriculture Development Program of Rs. 200 Million from the Livestock Dep. Government of Sindh, for the Strengthening of SPVC (2009)
- Generated a revenue Budget Rs. 30 million from the income of the sales of vaccine. 2002-2009 and ran the SPVC which was recognized as the largest poultry vaccine production unit of the country.
- The first Production unit of Poultry Vaccines in Public sector awarded ISO-9001-2000 certification from URS England for SPVC (2005)
- PC- 1 of Rs.20.36 Million was prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Science and Technology namely, “ Establishing a facility to produce Specified Pathogen Free {SPF} eggs from the SPF laying hens” (2004)
- Assist the FAO Expert in Establishing a Facility for the Production of Poultry Vaccine funded from the UNDP/FAO funds US $ 2.5 Million. (1976-1979)
