Biography

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sharif Mughal is a Professor and the subject specialist in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore since 2011. Before that, he was the Chairman in the Department of Zoology, GCU, Lahore from 2003-2011. Besides this, he is the Research Fellow (Honorary) and the link coordinator for HEC-BC KEP link with Department of Biological Sciences University Of Aberdeen U.K under BC project SPEKE and Event Coordinator, at British Alumni Association Pakistan. He received his PhD degree in fish immunology, University of Plymouth U.K in 1984. He has more than 38 years of teaching and research experience in the discipline of zoology worldwide. He carries out scientific, research and development projects on fish immunology, heavy metal and its control with biosorption through microbes and vitamins on fish production. The pollution in Haidyara drain, its direct and indirect impact on human health through food chain. He arranged various on site training and education courses for fish farmers and local community about deleterious effects of environmental pollutants. He has supervised 5 Ph.D., 34 M.Phil, 80 M.Sc. and 13 B.Sc.(Hons.) students during the carrier. He was involved in the development of courses curricula for various degree programs, BS (Hons.), M. Phil/Ph.D. Zoology, Fisheries & Aquaculture, BS (Hons.) M.Sc. Wetlands Management and short courses for Fish Farmers, etc. He has published over 100 articles of national and international impact factor journals, co-authors of 10 books and chapters and presented papers in various conference. He organized and participated in zoological society of Pakistan, biological sciences and fisheries societies of Pakistan and center of excellence in advance molecular biology conferences. He is the productive scientist by the ministry of science and technology and the scientific coordinator of several zoology, fisheries and aquaculture projects and operations in Pakistan and abroad. He is the member of various professional societies, statutory bodies, for several Universities and Punjab Public Service Commission.
