1. DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
UDL is providing almost all those diagnostic facilities requisite for routine monitoring of the
livestock herds, poultry flocks, farms, hatcheries, and feed mills to formulate preventive
measures to avoid losses owing to possible morbidity and mortality of their animals in
particular and economical losses to the industry in general. The contribution of lab may be
evaluated through the number of tests; on an average the lab is performing 1200 – 1500 tests
per month in December 2011.
2. ACDEMICS
Highly qualified staff of UDL is also engaged in teaching service to
under and post graduates of UVAS. Student avail a chance to
know about the latest techniques, equipments, standard test
methods and scientific knowledge based on research. The lab is
providing a facility to students perform practical and improve
their technical expertise to perform examination over variety of
samples
3. RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
UDL is also providing a solid platform for researchers, to find out
complex factors causing huge economical losses to livestock sector.
Currently fifteen postgraduate students are working in UDL on
different research areas. To increase research activities and to
provide a more conducive environment for research the Lab has few
ongoing research projects on development of diagnostics and has
submitted quite a few more projects to national and international
funding agencies.
4. HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
UDL is playing a vital role in Human resource development through organizing
workshops, providing trainings, refresher courses and diploma courses for UVAS staff,
students, farmers, lab and field professionals and personnel from sister institutions of
the country. More than 600 participants from distant part of country has got training
over advanced techniques of disease diagnostics and establishing lab management
system based on ISO/IEC 17025.
