History of University Sports
 
 
 
 
 
 

This institution will always feel proud in having produced intellectuals and scientists like Sh. Abdus Salam, Dr. Z.A. Hashmi and Dr. Israr-ul-Haq and Sportsmen like Dr. Tariq Aziz, Col. Ashraf Aziz, Mr. M. Farooq Khan, Mr. Mahmood Ahmad, Mr. Amrat Mal, Haji Muhammad Chaudhry, Rana Abdul Haq, Col. Shafique, Ch. Fazal Karim Sh, Major K. Asif, Dr. Khalid Farooqi, Col. Nasrullah Malik and Dr. Imtiaz Ahmad Chaudhry. Recent Addition to the galaxy of these super stars are Mr. Jail Aftab, Dr. Javed Iqbal Shah, Dr. Saleem Shehzad, Dr. Zafar ul Ahsan Qureshi, Col. Abdul Majeed, Col. Shabbir   Ahmad, Mr. Mehdi   Chavashi  Kolati, Mr.  Amir   Aslam, Mr.  Amir  Ayub and Mr. Tajammal Miraj. This College is proud of Dr. Tariq Aziz who was Captain of the National Hockey Team that won a Gold Medal in the world Olympics in 1968. Mr. Ashraf Ali Qureshi who won a Bronze Medal in 6th Asian Karate Championship  in  Nepal  in   1994  and Col. Shabbir Ahmad, who was awarded a trophy in Tent Pegging at the National Horse and Cattle Show, Lahore in 1995 by the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The year 1962-63 will long be remembered as the golden era in the 50 years of athletic history of this institution. Our athletic team participated in Lahore District Athletic Championship. Prominent amongst them where Mr. Khalid Farooqi, Mr. Mahmood Ahmad and Mr. Farooq Khan from this College, who however, became the best athlete of Lahore District. Later on our spirited boys run away with the relay races and athletic championship of the Punjab University with ease. Our victory in relay races stunned the entire sports circles and we received appreciation from every corner. The team won all the six relay events and became the first ever champions in the 68 years history of the Punjab University to win such an honor. They also created a new University record in Medley relay race, breaking the previous record by a big margin of 3.7 seconds. In athletic championships, we became champion by a real convincing margin and also created a new University record in 400 meters race. Mr. Farooq Khan brought another laurel to this College when he became the best athlete of the Punjab University.

Seven of our athletes, namely Mr. Khalid, Mr. Farooq, Mr. Mahmood, Mr. Riaz, Mr. Rashid, Mr. Khalid and Mr. Baskaran, were selected as member from any single institution.

A few months later, it was another occasion of great pride, when there of our Punjab University selected athletes, viz; Mr. Farooqi, Mr. Mahmood and Mr. Farooq, were selected by the Pakistan Amateur Athletic Federation to represent it in Quetta . Our sprinter Col. Ashraf Aziz represented the College in the Punjab University Championship in the year 1964 and created a new record in 100 meters race which no body could break until 1983.

The Football team of the college of Veterinary Sciences , Lahore will go down in the history as the champion of the Punjab University for many years and we cannot forget our stars like Mr. Farooq Mir, Mr. Faiz Muhammad (Faizo), Mr. Muhammad Shafi, Mr. Saeed Khan, Mr. Abdul Majid Kanjoo, Mr. M. Siddique, Chaudhry Sattar and Mr. Muhammad Younas whose untiring efforts of late Syed Amanat Ali Bokhari, Director Sports, Our College Rowing team remained Punjab University Champion and in the year 1955-56 won the West Pakistan Rowing Championship. In 1981, M/S Raj Kumar, Zafar-ul-Ahsan Qureshi and Nadeem were selected in Agri-versity Badminton team and Mr. Nadeem was the captain of the team, which represented University of Agriculture in the Inter-versity Championship and got 2nd position in the singles. Mr. Ahmad Raza was another promising player of this institution who captained the Agri-Versity Lawn Tennis team in the Inter-versity Championship in 1982. Mr. Hafeez and Mr. Majid deserve richtributes who brought good name to this College during the year 1981-92 and 1983 in the field of Foot Ball by representing the Agri-Versity in the Intervarsity Championship. Mr. Rameez-un-Nabi represented the Agri-varsity in the Intervarsity Squash Championship during 1981-82 and 1983. Due to his outstanding performance he was appointed Captain of the University Squash team.

Based on the quality and performance of game the following students of College of Veterinary Sciences, Lahore were selected as member of the various teams of the University of Agriculture , Faisalabad.
