Biograph

Dr. Iahtasham Khan is working as an Professor (Epidemiology and Public Health) at Department of Clinical Sciences, Jhang Campus, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan. Dr. Khan has more than 15 years’ experience in teaching, research and administration. Dr. Khan worked on different position at different UVAS campuses. He worked as lecture and Assistant Professor in the same institute.  He also have honor to work as Research Trainee at World Organization for Animal Health reference Labs for Brucellosis, Glanders, Q fever, Campylobacter etc in Germany. Dr. Khan stood first in DVM in 2002 and the completed his M.Sc. (Hons) (silver medal) in microbiology supported by Hi-Tech Merit Scholarship in 2004 from UAF. He earned his PhD in 2012 from world ranked university in Germany by securing highly competitive Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Merit Scholarship, Saudi Arabia. He is the first in service faculty member from UVAS to secure this Int. scholarship.  During his administrative work, he worked as an Academic Advisor UG and PG, Hall Warden, Assistant Superintendent, member purchase committee, Convener Technical Evaluation, Auction and POL Committees, Convener Sports Committee, senior tutor, member selection committee, In-Charge transport section and Incharge department of preventive medicine. He has rendered different advisory services to the veterinary professionals and livestock owners. He has been serving as a hall warden (6 years), member prospectus committee and PM laptop scheme since many years. Currently, Dr Khan is doing his job as a chairman clinical sciences and BOS and DTRC. He has been a member of UVAS ASRB for last 4 years.

On research side Dr. Khan had been served as Principal Investigators (PI) and Co-PIs in several national and international research projects from prestigious funding agencies including OIE (World Organization for Animal Health), Federal German Foreign Office and Duke University, USA. He earned collaborative research grants of more than 56 million PKR. He established a state-of-the-arts BSL-II lab (accredited from ORIC, UVAS) at CVAS, Jhang from foreign funding project. He is author of 64 impact factor research articles at national and international level. He did supervised and co-supervised numerous MPhils and PhD students inside and outside of institution supported by his Int. research project. He won “Young Scientist Award by Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation” 2018. He won best oral presentation award in Berlin conference. He received appreciation letters from Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor/President PVMC, President Robert Koch Institute, Germany (PhD Supervisor) and Project Manager Federal German Foreign Office in reward of excellent research work and establishment of BSL II plus lab in Pakistan. Besides this he is author of 9 books/chapters and around 10 news extension articles on different topics. He has published more than 54 abstracts and presented at national and international conferences and proceedings. He has organized and also resource person in numerous national and international workshops and trainings. He trained hundreds of students, farmers and faculty members in zoonotic disease diagnostics through his Int. project funded national workshops. He trained many faculty members from CVAS in German zoonoses reference labs as sustainable faculty development through his Int. project.

Dr Khan is also completed 52-Weeks ASM (American Society of Microbiology) biosafety training program and he is ASM certified biosafety leader in Pakistan. He conducted national biosafety and biosecurity training workshop at CVAS Jhang supported by his Int. project.
