FACILITIES
The Department has experimental herd of more than 20 cattle and buffalo, maintained at
the animals shed. The department has a clinic where outdoor and indoor facilities are available
for the diagnosis, management and treatment of referred sick animals. The state of the art
diagnostic and research ultrasonography facilities are available. Scientific papers from this
department have been published in peer reviewed international journals like Theriogenology,
Animal Reproduction Science, The Veterinary Record, Reproduction in Domestic Animals,
Reproduction Fertility and Development, etc., Presently 7 Ph.D. and 36 M.Phil. students are
enrolled. Detail of
ongoing projects
in the department is given below:
1. Parthenogenetic activation and development of mouse embryo embryo. Funded by HEC,
PI; Dr Amjad Riaz, cost: 9.459 million PKR
2. Improving reproductive efficiency of Sahiwal and Cholistani cows though estrus
synchronization and Timed AI, funded by ALP, PI: Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Cost: 9.849
million PKR
Research Priorities
The research priorities of Theriogenology Department are as follows:
1. Preservation, evaluation and A.I. services with Semen.
2. Ovarian follicular development in farm animals
3. Diagnostic and treatment measures of Reproductive diseases in Farm Animals
4. Reproductive Biotechnologies
5. Improved Reproductive Managemental Strategies
6. Research activities to improve reproductive efficiency of dairy animals
