Message from the Vice Chancellor
The University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore is one of the oldest
Veterinary Institutions in Asia. Since its inception in 1882, the faculty and staff of this
institution has worked enthusiastically and successfully, conducted a wide range of
programs that have effectively catered to the educational, training & research needs in
field of life sciences.
UVAS is amongst the top 10 universities of Pakistan and got 2
nd
position in
Agriculture/Veterinary Universities of Pakistan according to the recent Higher Education
Commission ranking. As per latest assessment of Quality Assurance Agency of HEC,
UVAS has got 91.5% score, achieved highest ‘W’ category.
This historic institution has five campuses. There are five faculties, three institutes,
one constituent college at Jhang. One para-veterinary school at District Layyah, one
Avian Research and Training Center, Ferozepur Road, Lahore and six affiliated institutes
at Attock, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, Okara, Lahore and Sahiwal.
UVAS provides ample opportunities to the students to discover themselves realize
their true potential and prepare for the future challenges. In view of the emerging highly
significant role of higher education in National Economy, the UVAS has initiated many
new degree programs to provide required human resource for the developmental
activities of Pakistan. University offers 28 M. Phil degree programs, 23 Ph.D degree
programs. Currently 799 M.Phil and 282 Ph. D students are enrolled in different
disciplines.
UVAS has developed state of the art clinics, teaching, training, research and
diagnostic facilities. The role and contribution of this institution in imparting quality
education and conducting high standard research in the fields of Livestock, Poultry,
Fisheries, WildLife, Pharmaceutics and Biological Sciences in general is now well
recognized nationally and internationally. It has a rich legacy of producing scholars
and professionals who are serving all over the world in teaching, administrative,
research and services-based organizations.
Our alumni are serving as the faculty of academic institutions within the country
and abroad. They are also on the staff of national and international research institutions,
UN Agencies (FAO, UNDP, WHO) and Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, etc.
Numerous former graduates of this prestigious institution have ventured into
entrepreneurship in the life sciences industry with great success.
