Glanders Local Name "Badh Kanar"

CAUSE

Caused by Burkholderia mallei. Horses, mules and donkeys are normally effected, man is also susceptible.

 SYMPTOMS

It is found in acute or chronic form, and characterized by pneumonia and nodules or ulcers in the respiratory tract and on the skin. The disease is highly fatal.

 TREATMENT

No effective treatment.

 CONTROL

Control is achieved by killing of clinically affected and carrier animals detected by serological or Mallein tests.
