Department of Microbiology

  Introduction

The department has made significant contributions in the field of conventional diagnostics and vaccines as is evident from the fact that many students both at Ph.D. and Master level had been trained and are serving in various capacities at different private and public establishments of the country. The Department is actively engaged in teaching under- and postgraduate, deficiency and diploma courses. Training workshops for field veterinarians are also being arranged. The Department has produced quite a number of M. Phil. and Ph.D. students in the University. The Department is equipped with modern tools, cell culture lab and lab animal facility.

Measure taken to Enhance the Academics

Research activities of the Department are enhanced and regularized. Research in Progress is as under:

  • Advanced molecular biological techniques are being standardized

  • Standardization of ELISA for the detection of antibodies against Hydropericardium syndrome virus (Mr. Intezar Hussain, M.Phil.).

  • Detection of immunogens of HPS virus (Mr. Zafar Iqbal, M.Phil.).

  • Study of immunogenicity of HPS virus on different age groups of broilers (Fariha Akhtar, M.Phil.).

  • Selection of thermostable reconstituted NDV progeny from vaccinal strain (Faiza Ghazanfar).

  • Studies on the factors affecting Pathogenicity of Fowl adenovirus causing Hydropericardium syndrome in broilers (Mr. Shahid Zaman).

  • Electrophoretic profile of E. coli isolated from field (Mr. Kaleem Ullah, M.Phil.).

  • Electrophoretic profile of Staphylococcus aureus from mastitic milk (Mr. M. Zubair Munir, M.Phil).

  • Biological and molecular characterization of indigenous isolate of foot and mouth disease virus
    (Mr. Rashid Munir Khawaja, Ph.D.).

  • Development & evaluation of polyvalent vaccines against AI virus (Mr. T. M. Shaukat, Ph.D)
