  Introduction

The Department has been established in June, 2004 with the main objectives of education / Training of students to cater the needs of this sector through enhancing egg and meat production in the country. The Department also conducts problem oriented applied research by the students and faculty for the purpose of solving problems of the stakeholders. The department also has a close liaison with the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) and leading poultry farmers, breeders, poultry feed millers and hatchery men and has formulated a Poultry Working Group in order to discuss problems faced by poultry industry and formulation of viable strategies.

  New Academic Department Program Planned

  • Initiation of BS (Hons.) and Ph.D. program in Poultry Production in the forthcoming semester.

  Teaching

Department of Poultry Production is sharing three DVM courses at undergraduate level having 11 credit hours.
M.Phil
Department of Poultry Production is conducting M. Phil degree program and almost four courses are offered in each semester.
Veterinary Assistant
Department is also offering one course having two theory and one practical lecture in each week.
Short Courses
Department is offering many short courses, including Poultry farm management for different NGOs and private entrepreneur.

  Extension Services

Besides teaching and research work, the department is also providing extension services in the form of technical advices to layer, broiler and breeder farmers, hatcheries, Poultry Processing plants and allied groups. A close liaison has been established between the department and different national and international groups of poultry industry which helps in identifying the real issues and problems of Poultry industry. The research findings based on problem oriented research is communicated to the stake holders through meetings and group discussions

  Research Priorities

Revitalization of spent birds through induced molting.
Nutritional and Managemental practices to combat heat stress in commercial poultry birds.
Effect of different Storage Time, Temperature, Humidity, Turning and Pre-heating during holding period on hatchability of Broiler/Layer/Quail breeder eggs.
Evolving commercial and rural poultry strain suitable to local environmental conditions.
