The Faculty of Animal Production and Technology (FAPT)
is comprised of four departments i.e. livestock production, poultry
production, food & nutrition and animal products technology. Our goal is
to create a learning community in which students at all levels, and
their faculty mentors, can engage in the pursuit of knowledge across and
between a broad range of disciplines in the animal sciences. FAPT also
provides conducive environment for our graduate students to explore the
possibilities, test their theories and grow from students to scholars.
FAPT education is about specialized learning for career enhancement,
about adding to and deepening one?s stock of animal capital,
applications of knowledge in one specific area in order to advance in
the workplace. In the 21st century, citizens and employees need to be
broadly trained and flexible. Labor market conditions change, fostered
by technology, global and demographic trends and public policies. Our
job titles, our employers and even our specializations change and evolve
over the course of our careers. FAPT plays a unique role within
Pakistan?s livestock industry by integrating a program of basic and
applied research at the cutting edge of animal science and production
with extension activities to disseminate this information among the
farmers nation wide. The commercial competitiveness of our livestock
producers relies heavily on the establishment of new technologies for
managing and feeding animals to maximize productivity within our
environment.
FAPT is devoted to undergraduate and graduate teaching, research and
extension/outreach that focus mostly on the nutrition & feed technology,
poultry & livestock production and value added animal product
development. Our faculty advises and offers a large, diverse curriculum
to more than 800 undergraduates and about 150 graduate students. The
faculty offers two undergraduate four year degree programs i.e. B.S (Hons)
Poultry Science and B.S (Hons) Dairy Technology along with many other
courses for other undergraduate degree programs being offered at this
university like DVM, B.S (Hons) Fisheries & Wildlife, B.S (Hons)
Bioinformatics & Biotechnology; and B.S (Hons) Applied Microbiology. The
faculty also offers many diploma and short courses for the farmers to
enhance their knowledge about different aspects of animal production and
related technologies. We are especially proud of the quality of our
faculty advising and our ability to offer experiential opportunities for
undergraduate research, teaching, and outreaching facilities. M.Phil and
Ph.D degree programs are offered in the disciplines of Animal Breeding &
Genetics, Livestock Management, Food & Nutrition, Poultry Production and
Animal Products Technology. Graduate students are important to our
society for a variety of reasons. They are an investment in our economy.
They enhance workforce development. They better our standard of living
by creating knowledge and advancing discoveries in research that
benefits all of us. They serve as mentors and educators for
undergraduates, thus directly affecting not only the quality of our
graduate programs, but also that of our undergraduate ones. Graduate
students inspire and encourage us to think critically and persevere in
our quest for answers to even the most challenging questions.
Opportunities for hands-on experience with poultry, small and large
animals are being provided at state of the art facilities at Ravi
campus, Pattoki in the areas of poultry nutrition, animal nutrition,
animal breeding & genetics, molecular cytogenetics & genomics, poultry
production, livestock management & housing and forage production.
Research is an important aspect of any high achieving institution, and
at FAPT the environment, infrastructure and expertise provide visible
proof of our commitment to research. We are dedicated to educating the
next generation of leaders for the flat world of the global economy with
student-centric, problem-based learning, focused on real challenges and
applications. This faculty is also developing four out reach research
and training centers i.e. Small Ruminants Training & Research Center,
Ravi Campus Pattoki; Poultry & Dairy Animals Training and Research
Center, Ravi Campus Pattoki; Dairy Training & Development Center, Ravi
Campus, Pattoki; and Avain Research Center, Millat Campus Lahore. These
centers will be developed for practical training & research on emerging
issues of poultry, livestock, forage production, feed technology, dairy
technology and value added animal products. These centers will
facilitate human resource development in livestock & poultry sectors,
which will lead to modernize livestock & poultry sectors by application
of efficient locally tested technologies in housing & management, breed
improvement, fodder & feed technologies and assist the industry for the
production of export oriented animal products meeting WTO standards. The
ultimate objective of development of these facilities is to produce a
graduate meeting the expectations of the growing animal sector and
having capabilities of self employment. Our faculty, staff and students
are dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, service and outreach
for the betterment of animals and people.
