“Taxidermy workshop” by Vet Crescent Society

On Thursday November 12, 2015, VET CRESCENT SOCIETY organized a “Taxidermy Workshop” in Main Auditorium UVAS. The basic aim of this workshop was to create awareness among students of UVAS regarding dying art of Taxidermy. Moreover, this workshop provided a chance to the students and faculty members to practically learn this unique type of art by performing each step with their own hands. A renowned professional taxidermist named Mr. M. Jahangir khan Jadoon was called as demonstrator for this purpose. His work including various stuffed animals and birds such as Tony Eagle, Lion’s head, Spotted Deer, Emu, Shoveller duck, Blue headed parrot, Lion’s cub were displayed in the university.

Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmed (Dean Faculty of Life Sciences & Business Management) graced the event with his kind presence as the Chief Guest. Event was started with the recitation of Holy Quran. Then Shahid Hassan (President VCS) conducted a session on Introduction of Taxidermy covering various aspect related to this field. Followed by the views of Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmed who appreciated the efforts of society for trying to promote this lost art and motivated students to participate in such activities. He also emphasized on establishment of a museum where all such specimens should be displayed.

Later on, two sessions were conducted for the demonstration and hand-on practice of students under the supervision of Mr. Jahangir Khan Jadoon in which students and employees of UVAS participated with great zeal. They were provided with all the workshop contents by the Society including experimental birds, taxidermy material, instruments etc and they carried out the whole procedure step by step with their own hands. In the end Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmed (Dean Faculty of Life Sciences & Business Management), Prof. Dr. Aneela Zameer (Chairperson CMS) & Prof. Dr. Mian Abdul Sattar (Chairman Department of Theriogenology) distributed certificates among the participants.
