International Parasitology Conference (PARACON) begins at UVAS
Experts urged to suggest recommendations for eradicating fatal parasites in animals
LAHORE (25-10-17): The Department of Parasitology of the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Pakistan Society of Parasitology and Higher Education Commission (HEC) organised a two-day International Parasitology Conference (PARACON) Recent Advances and Emerging Issues in Parasitology on Wednesday in UVAS City Campus Lahore.
Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab Naseem Sadiq presided over the inaugural session of the conference while UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, Chairman Department of Parasitology & President Pakistan Society of Parasitology Prof Dr Kamran Asharaf, Dr Imran Rashid and renowned veterinary & medical practitioners, parasitologists, molecular biologists, biochemist, vector control specialists, zoologists, scholars, researchers, academicians experts from different countries, including America, the UK, Germany, Iran, China, Tunis, Belgium and number of participants from public & private organizations all over Pakistan attended in the (PARACON).
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Livestock Naseem Sadiq said that the people who are supplying adulterated and fake milk manufactured from injurious chemicals are the real ‘parasites’ hitting livestock sector. He said Livestock Department is taking strict action against the fake and adulterated milk suppliers in Punjab. He thanked UVAS for arranging such an informative conference and called national & foreign experts to suggest recommendations for eradicating parasites in animals, thus reducing mortality ratio and improving health and production of animals.
He said livestock department in collaboration with UVAS will also organize capacity building trainings to address parasites issues in small and large animals and control deadly diseases. .
Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said that livestock is the major source of livelihood of poor farmers and also important for the economic development of the poor farming community and for country. He said that the Livestock Department under the dynamic leadership Naseem Sadiq is working actively to prevent the Congo type deadly diseases through vaccination and providing clinical facilities at the doorstep of poor farmers and enhancing milk and meat production in Punjab. He also lauded the organizers of the PARACON.
Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf highlighted the objectives of the conference. He said conference was aimed to bring together veterinary & medical practitioners, parasitologists, researchers, academia, students and professionals regarding recent advances and emerging issues in parasitology with the latest research, sharing ideas and innovative knowledge. Prof Dr Masood Rabbani presented the vote of thanks.
Stalls were also set up and poster presentations arranged during the conference, The secretary livestock Nasim Sadiq and Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha visited stalls and poster presentations.
Various scientific sessions consisting of thought-provoking keynote and plenary lectures, oral, poster and online presentations from America will feature in the two-day event. Theme of the conference will cover all the major areas of parasitology and related to parasitic diseases of veterinary and public health importance, diagnostic chemoprophylaxis, anti-parasitic and vaccines of parasites, zoonotic parasitic diseases and vector-borne diseases and role of veterinarians under one-health concept epidemiology.
